Needed to get out on Fathers Day for some quiet time. Had been watching the temps on the lower Brandywine and was using that for guide. The birds were my alarm clock and by 6 or so was driving through some of the prettiest farm country in Chester Co. It had cooled to the point that there was layered fog in the valleys. Got to the stream and rigged up and hiked down the better part of a mile to fish a really deep hole before the swimmers and dogs. The water was a pleasant 65 and there was only some midges and few rises. The deep hole was a bust (many chubs) but I hooked and lost a nice brown below and then worked my way back up to my truck fishing the better runs. Hooked about six and landed most though throughout the day fish were coming unbuttoned for no particular reason. Got some much needed water and headed up the East branch. More of the same though bait fishermen were now fishing down through the better spots before me. Still hooked about seven or eight more and missed several. Black ant was again my best pattern. The sun started baking and I temped the stream at 70 a little after 1, so I beat feet. All and all a nice outing and though; much needed stress management!
