Author's Note

Ah, the Bonaventure River... True to form, when I wake up in the morning I admire it and carefully observe the color it reflects. It's inspiring and helps me create the fly of the day. So, one morning in September 2003, I tied that fly and it was to bring me two catches in two days, a beautiful male of about fifteen pounds in the Upper Rock pit in full afternoon sun and another of about eight pounds in the Salmon pit just after sunset.

the eyes have it... next up is nearnuff's. needed some eyes. i make my own with mono, solarez and sally hansen's. i think you get nicer eyes than melting the end of the mono.

I found the recipe for this fly in a book by Richard Talleur; this Scandinavian fly would be a real nuisance in sunny weather.

I think the idea is to represent an insect that tried but did not quite emerge from the nymphal/pupal shuck.

Yep, they're are all deadly when the fish decide to eat them, hahaha!

Size 18 Griffiths Gnat. This is a good wintertime bug to fish on the top end of a dry/dropper system if you happen to bump into some fish on a nice winter day working the top of the water column and working midges. Drop a small black or red Zebra Midge about 16” below the Gnat.
