Got out for a few hours yesterday and decided to hit WVC DHALO area since it was recently stocked. Water temp was VERY cold but I had forgotten my thermometer so I can't give you a good number but after 2 hours my feet were stinging. Overcast sky and air temp was in the mid 40's. Started with nymphs but got nothing switched over to WB-er and started picking them up right away. Landed half a dozen but lost as many others with an occasional bump mixed in. Lost a monster bow when he broke my line and kept my fly. Anyone gets a 17/18" bow with a WB-er attached, I want it back! 🙂 All in all a nice day after winter thumbed its nose at us the day before.

Good report, thank you for sharing. I took my son there on Sunday and it was BS. Three guys about 25-28 years old, construction workers that came and fished the pool we were fishing - cursed about 150 times in 60 seconds before I removed my 7 year old and myself. I had him walk up the trail a ways and then I let it be known how I felt. Prolly didn't mean much b/c once an a**hole mostly likely always will be.
Went to next spot to find 6 people fishing the only pool with fish. They had a case of Pabst blue ribbon on the bank - had no idea how to fish. Good times. Went home.
We'll get our fun in some other time without all the distractions. Same sad story though - it's too bad...

WVC DHALO is too easy access IMO thats why you had problems. Don't get me wrong I have been there before when its been great fishing and haven't seen anyone, but I've also been there in times like you just described.

Its a shame that the youngster had to experience that.

I had a pool to myself for a little while but had 3 spin guys come in at different times and fish right above or below me. They didin't get close enough to cause me any problems and they were all respectful but huntfish is right, too easy access with too few good spots to fish. I try it once or twice a year just to get out but it certainly isn't a destination spot. It will probably ease up after next Saturday because they'll all be going to streams where they can keep fish and those fish will still be there unless it gets pouched, which I suppose happens there.

West Valley gets poached like crazy. Last year I had guys walking by with stringers run when I said something and many people fishing with power bait. The good thing is I did see the PFBC on the water frequently checking tackle and licenses.

Haven't been on WV in a few months. I walked the stream in January and that big old tree along the second pool had fallen right in the middle of the pool. Damn shame, that was a really nice pool before the tree fell.

Has that huge tree been removed?

doc, the tree is still in the water and I imagine it will be there for many years due to size and small flow of the stream. It is too bad for fishing as MANY of the stocked fish in the upper end will be in that pool and essentially, unfishable... However, talk about great cover to hold-over fish...
