West Branch Delaware; Wayne County, PA May 18 - 20

Lots of tan and Apple caddis last Wednesday. Actually too many emerging pupa in the water and adults on the surface. Landed three 18" - 20". Going up tomorrow to Friday with my grandson - would like to get him away from the Dark Side of spinning to fly fishing. I will spin, but never for trout, only smallmouth out of my bass boat or wading on the Susquehanna..

Does anyone know what is a safe flow to wade the W. Branch around the Deposit, NY area?

I personally like it 800 or below, but you can wade some areas at around 1000.

I really hope there is not issues with super heated spill water this weekend. I think temps could get to 70f in the lower west today. Of course now that I say that, the area will prolly get pounded severe storms and all will become mud.

Right. I would like to think they'd open it up so the majority of the water comes out the outflow should the water temps start pushing 70...

Still okay but definitely "up there" for this time of year near the dam. I agree, the lower west and the main may get pretty warm.

Water temperature at Hale Eddy this morning, 5:45 A.M.
12.7C = 54.86F. The flow is increasing also. Rain or releasing cold water? Haven't checked that yet.

Prof,

Hale Eddy temp topped out at 18*C / 64*F yesterday. The mainstem down at Callicoon was around 66*F. The dam is >100% capacity and 1600cfs is flowing over the top (with warm water). Should be okay soon if the monsoons are over.

They can't really do that when the water is gushing over the top of the dam. Yesterday it was still spilling at 1370 cfs with the remainder coming out as bottom release.

I fished the sewage center run yesterday and picked up a few on streamers. No trophies, but damn were they beautiful.

It's been just about the toughest year in the Catskills as I've seen yet.
