a wind from the East, fish bite the least.
a wind from the West, fish bite the best.
a wind from the South blows the fly in the fishes mouth.
a wind from the North, fishermen don't go forth.
My Dad would say: “did ya hear the explosion? Tha wind blew up the river …”When I fish the Susquehanna and find a strong upriver wind, I go home. It's always a bad day to fish. My old river rat neighbor used to say:
" A wind from the south blows the hook out of the fishes mouth."
