Weather: Cloudy, Breezy, and rainy. Air temp: low 70s
Insect activity: none and no risers
After blowing off a trip to meet a buddy up North (thanks weather forecasters) I decided to fish local in case it got blown out, which it did around 1 pm. Fishing a 10' 3/4 with a sighter; primary fly was a tan caddis pupa with a Tungsten bead.
The first run I tried yield nothing but it is heavily fished and two guys were leaving as I arrived late am. The next fast run yielded two hook ups but lost both, before I brought to hand a feisty 14" brown, followed by a small Rainbow.
All the areas fished were fast riffles or plunge pools; great pocket water and not easy to fish. Wading was treacherous and took one bad fall when fighting a small Trout and not paying enough attention to foot placement. Glad I grew up on a farm where you get lots of practice on unscheduled tumbles. Nice lump on my forearm but no serious damage to me or my equipment. Was wearing studded boot and had a staff as well. Covered a bit of water and got a serious workout before I got soaked as my truck was about 1/2 mi. upstream. when the rain came. Caught the biggest fish of the day (16" brown) on a small black ant fished as a dropper. Landed a handful and missed that many; probably more. Nice little adventure and 7 min. from home.
