Valley Creek, Chester County 8/4/2008

Water temp. 67 degrees
Level is low and gin clear
Midge activity picked up today, some beetles in the high grass and a bunch of ants around.

Fished this morning picking some up on ant patterns as well as scuds and hares ears.

Fished Valley today from 1230-1400 from the bend below the green bridge to the pool above with the tree laying low and completely across the stream.

Caught three on black ant, blue midge and a pheasant tail.

Came across a young gentleman fishing in a boot cast. Talk about dedicated!

Valley creek are some of the most beautiful brown trout in pa.Or anywhere for that matter,there colors are amazing.I used to fish that stream 5 days a week in my younger years,especially during the sulphur hatch.I learned how to flyfish on that stream.Glad to see it's still producing the little guys.There also very smart,pound for pound they fight harder than any stockie.

The fish were looking up in during the recent cool mornings to micro-caddis, and black midges. For the midges...all you need is black thread, and hackle. Small...20-22s. More important is a drag free drift, and stealth.

Al's Rats, biot midges. As of late the only midges I have been seeing are white not saying they won't take other colors. I have been fishing a tandem with a dry and then a dropper. 90% of the takes have been on the dropper.
