I fished Valley Creek this evening from about 5:30-8:30. I had to be at the convention center until 5:00 so I figured rather than fight the traffic back into the city I would do some fishing. It ended up being my best outing ever at Valley Creek. When I arrived there were several people fishing but they must have left soon there after because I had the section above the iron bridge to myself. Fish were rising sporadically to tan caddis. There were also a few tan mayflies (~size 16). I did not catch any of them but they looked like they might have been gray fox. Around dusk there were a lot of cream midges hatching as well. I managed to catch fish on elk hair caddis, caddis emergers, and (surprisingly) bucktail streamers. I hooked more than a dozen, brought 9 to hand, and had another 10-15 strike but I missed the hook set. My previous record at Valley was only 3 fish brought to hand. Air temps were in the low 60s and upper 50s. I never got around to checking the water temp, but the fish were not sluggish at all. All in all a great night to be on the water.
