After doing good on Pickering this morning I fished Valley Creek from 1-2:15 without much success. Water was 47-48 degrees and clear. Some midges coming off, but it was sporadically very breezy and made some casting difficult. Lots of fishermen. I went to my third choice spot after finding cars parked in the first two.

Took one small brown on a size 20 zebra midge and lost two more that were on for 3 or 4 seconds each. I think I need to use a slightly larger fly as I seem to have low percenatge of good hook ups with the small stuff-all with the barbs mashed down. The one I caught was hooked on the outside of the mouth near the nostril-If it wasn't 6 inches it might not have stayed on.

Lots of suckers stacked up in a few spots, lots of changes to the stream over the winter. There are some big gravel deposits and some brush that needs to be cleared out that is slowing the flow in a few pools. It seems there are some good new spots near the banks and in some runs to check out in the coming months.

I was on valley today also and couldn't manage any. Had one hard hit on a small wooly bugger but everything else was ignored.

I was taking fish on BWOs on saturday at Valley, just below covered bridge.
