Valley Creek, Chester County, 2/8/17

Fished Valley in the park today from the Covered Bridge upstream. Didnt get a temp, but it was sunny when I got on the water, maybe 11:30. Caught 2 nice fish nymphing in the fast water, figured they would be enjoying this warm spell there. Headed upstream and watched a few fish feed up top without fishing to them. One was steadily gorging himself every 2 seconds it seemed. There was a mess of ducks near this area so I left the river and gave them a wide berth so as to not flush them upstream. Found a pod of risers, singled one out, and got him to eat on the 4th pass. One of us missed, though.... second pod of risers I found was fleeting and I admitedly put my target down. Back to nymphing, turned a couple more up.

At around 2:30 the air temp dipped a bit, things slowed down, and I left.

I fished valley today as well. Like I have most days for the last couple of years since I work so close to it. I probably average about 3 days a week year round. I travel to other streams mostly in central pa, Lehigh valley, or poconos on the weekends. i know of 3 fish on valley in the 20" range and I've seen glimpses of bigger. I caught an 17" brown last month there so I might be asking a little too much but I get a shot at one of these fish about once a month I'll catch one of them in their feeding lies during the day. Today was one of those days. I could see he was eating nymphs got into a good position behind some shrub and got about 4 good casts to him. 5th got snagged on a rock and he spooked. One of these days. But other than that I caught 5 fish all in faster water like you said. 4 on a size 16 ray Charles scud pattern and 1 on a size 18 walts worm. Also found some small back stoneflies crawling around on my pack as I retied later in the day.

Nice! I once spooked a 20+" fish in the Park at Valley. Couldn't believe it.

I was using a BWO dry (22) but they were eating midges.

Nice report! There was a pig chasing suckers around one of the flat deep pools last week. I, of course, hooked his short offspring or cousin...
