Air: mid-40s and overcast
Water: mid-40s, slight stain, 50 CFS
Hatches: midges
I took my first trip of 2019 today, just a couple hours on Valley in the Malvern area to break in my expensive license, stamp, and permit combo. I probably landed 7 fish, plus a few more YOY, a couple fish over 9 inches. Most ate a rainbow warrior tied off the bend of a small tungsten tag fly. No indicator (yet), just tucking the pair of nymphs into deeper pockets and tight to cover. I even landed a couple on the bugger before I left for home. I was about a day late conditions-wise to move a winner, but it was still fun to move, and stick, a few active fish. Many of the fish are in winter mode, grouped up in the deep holes. Didn't get out until the 9th last year, and that was in Centre County, so I am hoping the temperate weather holds... Happy New Year!
