Fished with the Prof, KeithS, Sassquatch and Mr. Sassquatch Sr.[Andy's Dad] Also met up with an eldery lovely lady FF. None of us even saw a fish except up by the big pool off of Bradford Road in Chesterbrook. We fished from the Iron Bridge up to Bradford Road. 51 degree ambient air temp but very low water and sunny. Sun on my face and back felt delightful. Saw two deer run up the middle of the creek and was amazed they could navigate the rock strewn bottom at that speed. I fished a SJ Worm, Greenie Weenie Zebra size 20 midge and a combo hares ear/pheasant tail. Nothing was working. We think it was the water temp...43.6 degrees. Fished from 10 till 3PM. Sass it was a pleasure meeting your Dad. If you don't mind telling... how old is he? I saw he had a senior license though. With the artic air blast headed our way I think I'll put the rod in the garage for a while. Fade out

He's 66. This is the second year he's had the old man license.

He had a good time. I tried a scud (many colors and depths), zebra midges, BWOs of different stages, buggers, sculpins, micro buggers, 6x, 7x, nothing. Where have all the trout gone!? Dad was trying olive beadheads, prince nymphs, PT, HE, etc. I think between all of us, we covered all the patters ;-)

Saw lots of fish today (1/20), but got skunked. Talked to some guys who had luck with zebra midges. Saw fish rising in a couple different areas and got a strike/refusal on a #22 adult midge I was gifted by another angler. I saw some BWOs but put the fish down on my presentation.

Sorry you guys didn't catch anything, but at least you had the nerve to give it a shot in mid Jan!

It's more than just going fishing:

1wt: Was also amazed at the bird activity. Seemed way to active for this time of year. Was actually wondering if the usual migration had taken place as I think I was seeing more species than the usual winter birds. I did not see a robin thank goodness.

Didn't see any fish last week either, as both fish where caught blind casting with buggers but its now time to sit infront of the vise for a few weeks.

Yesterday in my development I saw at least 20 robins. Looked like spring.

Fished it two weekends ago w/ similar results. water was 45, saw some fish moving around and between my brother and I we caugh two right off that bat and that was it for the day. got a fingeling on a red zebra 18. Waiting egerly for the warmer weather.

Fade,

Yeah, strange weather indeed! I see the same thing, the birds don't seem to migrate like they did when I was a kid? But at least we will get some "cold" weather for the next couple weeks?

We need it to kill the bugs, and the weeds in the lakes? Last year we didn't get any ice at all. Feb was short sleeve weather for the most part.

The last half of Jan should be the coldest weather of the year....... so bring it on!

My experience with Valley has been pretty slow in the winter... I tend to drive to different spots and just look for fish working he surface for midges. If I don't see fish working when the water temps are really cold I usually head out. I fish Valley fairly regularly all year but winter hits and I tend to back off considerably.

Hit VC today (2/25), fished it from the Turnpike bridge up. Fished everything from Zebra and Red Midges, to Walts Worms. Saw lots of bugs in the air, liked a small BWO hatch, but couldn't catch any to get a close look.

No fish rising, I did tie on a midge to try some top water, but no luck.

I just PMed him to join me this weekend at??????

I'm not one to complain to much about pounding the hell out of a stream on the forum but jesus guys give it a rest send pms or emails to each other or something .

What is it about Valley that makes people insane.. LOL

Eng_Prof, You have one of those things that get in the way of fishing on a Monday afternoon.. A JOB!!! LOL,

Sorry should have told you but I had a meeting fall out and found myself open after 1:30, so I ran at the chance to hit the water.

Good thought.

Thanks for editing your original post. I know we had some fun in your thread but I also thought our info was pretty helpful, as well.

Hey Fox why are you wasting so much time Brookie fishing? They are like 3 inches long will bite on a bare hook and you have to drive hours jut to fish for them PLUS you can catch them fishing downstream....come back to Valley...it is a way of life

Ahhhhhhhhh, you care. I'm warm all over now. I'll be back to my home of VC very soon. I may even have to try another stream over that way but the name escapes me at the moment. 🙂
