Fished Valley Creek from 1100 to 1800 today. Started at the Knox Quarter's parking lot and worked my way all the way up to where the creek splits past Chesterbrook and Bradford Road, but just before Mill Road. Ran into a few other fishermen in the park, but no one else above the 76 bridge. Weather was 60-65 degrees and partly sunny; I did not get a water temperature. The water was flowing at 21 cfs, which is about normal given that we haven't had any recent rain this week. The water was very clear, and fish were spooked easily. There was a lot of bug activity all day long. There were black caddis hatching during pretty steadily from when I started to about 1530, and later in the afternoon and early evening the sulfurs were starting to pick up. I landed 8 fish, and missed probably another 5-6, so it was a pretty good day for Valley Creek. I stuck to fishing the faster water, riffles, runs, and any spots where the small wild browns could hide out. My most successful flies were at size 14 black elk hair caddis with a size 16 soft hackle black wet fly dropped below it. 4 of the 8 were caught on the elk hair caddis, and 2 were on the black soft hackle. I did manage to catch two other fish on a size 18 olive caddis pupa nymph dropped off the elk hair caddis. Spring is definitely here, and the hatches are getting the fish looking up!
