Valley Creek, Chester Co. 4-27-11

Fished from 4pm-6pm. One strike on an 18 zebra midge and one strike on a 20 griffiths gnat. Landed zero. Saw a TCO guide on the stream who said his clients were using a CDC black caddis. One of his clients caught a rising trout I was casting to 20 min prior. Guess that's why he's a guide and I'm not. Looks like I'm going to have to buy/tie some of those. I also talked to another guy when I got there that said he landed one swinging a tan caddis wetfly.

I've fished it 3 times now. Believe my totals were 6, 18, and 9. The latter 2 trips, though, I hit it at absolutely ideal conditions. I can see where it'd be tough under more normal conditions.

I think Valley's reputation for being a tough stream is a bit overplayed. I don't consider myself to be much of a fisherman, and I've only gotten skunked once in countless trips to Valley.

Normally, I'll leave with 5 or 6 brought to hand, with an occasional day in the double digits. There are also 1 and 2 fish days too, usually winter or fall.

Don't stay put too long and don't be afraid to fish shallow water.

Yeah I agree, not that hard of a stream to fish, I dunno. Im not a great fisherman, just dont make a ruckus in the water and use some PTs and scuds, you will catch fish.

I am not a very good fly fisherman and have only been at it seriously in the past two years. I fished there this afternoon for around 2 hours and got 4 to hand including my nicest fish there, ever, which went right around 13''. I missed 3-4 fish as well. I usually have the most success there fishing Al's Rats in moving water.

i have noticed that fishing fast water does bring fish to hand more often. and small flies the smallest i go is maybe a 16 i fish alot of 18 and 20 there.
