Fished Valley Today 11:am 1:30pm

Weather: Sunny 65F

Water Temp: 50F

Water Level/Clarity: A little low but good for this time of year, clear to the bottom.

Hatches: Not much.

Connected on 2 nice Valley Ck Browns with a Sz. 14 Parachute adams.

Scared up a nice 4 point Buck and saw a good sized doe later.
sorry hunters no hunting in the park.

Really enjoyed the day!!

PS: the covered bridge is closed at Yellow Spring Road and Valley Ck Rd. if you come from the park off 252 to get to the upper stretch from the covered bridge u have to follow detour, kind of jammed me up today as I did not know!

I really love that creek. I'm surprised they hit a dry that big this time of the year. I had some problems with the bridge out earlier in the year. It is a pain.

2 weeks ago i noticed a fish digging, a few redds, and even 1 set of fish already paired up.

I saw two 18ers running up 3 inch riffles in a hurry to get somewhere!

Could I ask you guys for some suggestions I might tie up for the winter? Do you find success on Valley Creek in the fall and winter with anything other than zebra midges, griffiths gnats or cdc BWOs? I need to tie something new and effective!

Jackstraw: I find Valley to be the most frustrating stream to fish in the 30 odd years I have been FFishing. The English Prof and my son have success there but my dislike of always having to fish upstream no doubt explains my lack of success. The Prof and my son seem to catch the bulk of their fish on a Walt's Worm. My son got 4 yesterday on this pattern. Thinking of doing a GF post on Valley

You just described all the flies I use on this creek in the fall/winter. I did have them biting on salmon eggs last weekend which is a first for me on that creek.

I took my son there last Tuesday as he had never caught a fish there. That all changed on Tuesday. He caught and landed 10 Browns and a nice sucker. Most caught on the green weenie with a couple on a wooly bugger. I didn't fish, but only guided him. It was an awesome day and he was tickled. This all happened in less than 2 hours.

On another note to an earlier poster. I fished last year in December and February and caught fish. One day thought I was going to get skunked and put on a 14 prince nymph and caught two in 10 minutes. Maybe it worked as they saw something new to them???

FWIW, most of my success there has been on Hare's Ear nymphs, size 14 or 16, typically 5X tippet. And I've had quite a few double digit days.

That said, I tend to target that stream when it's up a bit, and I typically stay well upstream of the park.
