Valley Creek, Chester Co, 10/25/13

With all this Valley Creek discussion I read the Valley Creek Restoration Plan online. One goal was to re establish a brook trout population in Crabby Run. After the substrate is restored, where would you likely get the brook trout to repopulate the stream?
Would you use wild fish from the closest brook trout fishery in the area?

alb - a couple of years ago, after the digging and planting restoration, a team went to the hinterlands of Chester County and caught a bunch of brookies, which were then transplanted to Crabby. The browns had already been shocked out and moved to Valley.

Cool. I hope they take. I always wondered if the soldiers tried to catch trout during that cold winter at valley forge.

Seriously though, I didn't realize brookies were still anywhere to be found in Chester. Co. - Maybe those hinterlands stretched into Berks?

FBC "found" 7 wild brook trout streams this year in chester county in the brandywine watershed. There are probably a few more. Would love to see the Crabby Creek efforts succeed! I read that brookies were hanging on there until flooding from hurricane floyd (I think) wrecked the stream.

Plenty of brookies in Chester. I haven't found any streams that I would describe as great brookies streams. But that isn't to say there aren't any fish in them.

I remember catching them in French creek. I also remember 58 cents a gallon gas. Perhaps one of those is still true?
