Valley Creek, Chester Co., 1/3/2011

Fished Valley Creek in Valley Forge National Park today from 12:30-2:30PM. Started fishing by stripping a size 8 black wooly bugger with no success. Switched to nymphing; hooked and landed 3 brown trout. Two of the fish were small, ~6" in length. The third fish was pushing 13", the largest I have caught in the few trips I have made to Valley Creek. All fish were caught on a size 22 brown midge larvae with a copper head and silver ribbing. The midge larvae was fished ~16" behind a size 14 blood worm with a pinch of Deep Soft Weight about 8" above the blood worm. This rig was fished beneath a small indicator. Air temperature was in the low to mid 30's and I do not carry a stream thermometer to check the water temperature (I need to purchase one). I observed some small cream colored midges on the surface of the water and the bank of the stream. A few brown trout were rising to these flies in the slower moving sections of the creek. Water clarity was clear and I focused my fishing efforts on sections of broken water.

Nice report.... I have been dying to get out on Valley Creek but have been hitting other places. Sometimes I forget what an awesome stream Valley Creek is.
