First time in a long time with no fish to hand. Had one hooked on a pheasant tail nymph but self released. Missed a few on the surface. Could not figure what they were feeding on. Looked to be a few very small BWO hatches.

What section did you end up fishing? All that construction is a mess right now.

I was there on the 16th and had the same conditions. Hooked a bunch of fish but didn't land any. started at the iron bridge but the construction, like camdogrs said was real bad. worked my way up stream for about a mile. Same some fish rising and had fish hit a small hopper pattern i was using. Watched some fish feeding but could not figure it out. I think it was probably real small BWO's hatch or midges. I have never fished the valley in the summer so is this normal?

chrisdm4 This is pretty much the norm for Valley unless its right after a rain event. The fish are wise and stealth is pretty much the key. I fished down from Chesterbrook last Tuesday then tried moving down to the parking lot by the covered bridge. Saw the road blocked and tons of pipe so I bailed after walking down and see the guys still working. Lets hope all the digging and runoff doesn't kill any more fish.

Fished from General Knox above the covered bridge down to the rock retaining wall. Usually do very well through there. The construction is a mess but it is real quiet where there is no traffic on 252. Wish they could keep it closed.

Muddy water isn't going to harm the fish. Every time there is a downpour over that stream, it gets really muddy for a few hours, and then it quickly starts clearing up again. The Valley Creek Browns are used to having to periodically deal with muddy conditions. Back in May, I actually fished in the muddy water when they where digging near the iron bridge. The water was chocolate milk, but I still caught fish. Fishing in the mud is easier than fishing in the crystal clear water you normally see on Valley Creek.

TYoung totally agree that the muddy water wont harm them. Just worried about what's in the pipes that they are replacing. Had some of my best days as Valley right after heavy rains when its really off color. Crazy party about Valley is how fast it clear up and goes back down to normal flows.
