Fished Valley today. Air temp. was in the sixties. Caught eight fish with midges and scuds.

I love valley when it has water in it.

Were they rising?

There were some fish taking emerging midges. I did get a bunch on a midge emerger.......4X leader and had to go down to 6x tippet. Not cause the fish were leader shy but b/c I couldn't fit 5x through the eyehole of the size midge I was fishing.

Fish were slamming the top pretty good in spots on Wed. Micro stuff. Did not fish, just watched.

Stream conservationist; and not just my honey hole either.

I fished valley creek on Wed. (2-11) and didn't catch anything. Had one bite but lost it. I fished from just above covered bridge downstream a ways. This was the first time here in winter. I have a lot to learn. But it was nice to get out.

For what it's worth, I have had great success recently on Valley fishing zebra midge nymphs (18-22). Sunday I caught 8 and lost half as many.

Jay,

It's funny the guy that got me into flyfishing and gave me my base of knowledge was a wetfly/dryfly guy....I don't swing flies as much any more or should I say as much as I should, however, the ones I got on the midges I was swinging them. Great tactic!!!!! I have found that swinging wetflys isn't as easy as dead drifting....at least for me anyway. :-D A lot of guys at Valley still swing flies...more so than other streams I have fished. I LIKE THAT!!!!! :-D

Thanks for the tips.

Perhaps I've read too much Rand. Also, perhaps you've misinterpreted my statements.

So you're an objectivist?

No, I was just making a joke about a my semi-objectivist approach to stream stewardship. It's a subject that tends to **** some people off. Without fishing, I (and many others) wouldn't care about streams like we do. Nothin' wrong with that, IMO. Just bringing it up usually results in a good argument.

I tried to cast a sage once (the dude wouldn't shut up!) but he was too heavy and broke my fly rod....Hate it when that happens.
