Valley Creek 10.28.2012 Chester County

Luckily I was able to get in some pre-hurricane fishing late Sunday afternoon. I don't want to tell anybody to fish when conditions are terrible but most of my best fish have been caught during overcast and rainy weather. Yesterday was a great day to be out and I caught seven wild browns on pheasant tail nymphs and walt's worm midge pattern. The last and best fish of the night came right before dark on a black streamer. The hurricane rains should bring about some new changes to Valley... should be interesting.

Nice fish! I got out to VC on Saturday. Had a couple strikes with a caddis and landed a nice one on a BWO. I also saw what I believe was a redd. Is it still early for that? I could be mistaken, but it looked very similar to pictures I've seen on the net. I pretty much avoided that part of the creek, and generally tried to avoid wading.

It will be interesting to see what changes after Sandy. We didn't get that much rain in Philly, but the winds were stronger than I've ever seen. The USGS discharge data looks like VC got pretty swollen, but not dramatically more than other points throughout the year.

I didn't spot any Redds on Valley while I was there... I haven't been back since that day. They very well could be spawning at this time. I don't think it is too early at all.
