Valley Creek 10/04

Fished Valley Creek today from dawn until about noon. Started at the metal bridge in the park and worked my all of the way up to Bradford Rd. Not sure what the water temperature was because the battery in my thermometer died. Saw some fish rising in a nice deep pool and managed to get about a 11" Brown on a bwo right when I arrived. As the day moved on, I worked the ripples with a hares ear and caught a few more browns around the same size as my first one. Overall it turned out to be a beautiful day. No one else around. I actually had a deer come within about ten feet of me to get a drink. I was really amazed that the doe wasn't even phased by me being there.

The deer at Valley are pretty mellow. I've actually been a little creeped out before by them. I'm just standing there fishing and they are surrounding me, just watching. There must have been 20 of them within 100 yards. It was an odd experience. Once, I was walking through the tall grass across the street from the covered bridge parking area. Just as I took a step, the ground erupted in front of me. I flushed a bedding fawn out. It waited until I was a good 3 feet away before doing anything.

I haven't been to Valley yet since I'm just learning but I am in the Valley Forge area quite often and the deer there are actually quite a problem in terms of their population. Since the area is being more industrialized, they are taking refuge in the park which is the little room left in the valley forge area. You might laugh but deer prob freak me out a little more than snakes or other things you might come across near the water just because you know they would win if they ever wanted a fight.

The last time I fished Valley before I moved I came across a young buck. Suprisingly he didn't bolt, just looked at me an casually walked away. He was probably only an 8 pointer, still had fuzzy antlers. Thats the only buck I've ever seen there, but I did see a lot of fawns last spring.

besides deer i sometimes see a fox or two.
what i rarely see is trout between 4 and 14 inches.every brownie i ever catch there is tiny or huge.no in betweeners.have seen them active after rain,hitting muddlers ,but never catch them.
