Water temp started out at 45 at 10AM, did not take another temp but it rose throughout the day. Water was clear and at what I would call a good level, high enough to hold trout in the tail outs, low enough to reach them while wading. Weather was overcast with occasional showers.
Trout began occasionally rising to sparse caddis and adult stone flies in the slow pools often within 20’ of the bank in very shallow water at about noon. It was clear they had not been messed with much this year. Blue quills and olives joined in about 2, then the main event of a blanket Hendrickson hatch from 2:30 until we left the river at 5:30 with fish still working. I'm always amazed at the bugs this river can pump out. I fished a size 12 emerger in the film the whole hatch, the fish picked it out among the naturals.
Most of the trout rising trout were in slower seems, tail outs, or the edges of the fast water, rainbows were fat and dumb (not for long), with brown cruising the still water flats. Glad we made the trip.
