Fished upper elk for about 5 hours on the 27th, flow and colour looked to be about perfect but the fish thought otherwise. Missed two, one on hot pink s.s. and another on a white bugger just before dusk. Did not see many fish, and did not talk to anyone who had caught more than two all day. All fish were in the deep holes, none in fast water or on the move, as far as I could tell.

Thanks for the report. I'm headed to Erie next weekend and this is helpful. It's also concerning because if they're sitting in the deep pools, which doesn't surprise me, they'll likely be ice covered by next weekend based on the current forecast. Fingers and toes crossed they stay open for just a week longer!!!

I tried to fish Walnut on the 24th, but it was 80-90% ice covered. I would agree, it won't take long to freeze them. From what I have read, 16 Mile is almost always ice free, because of the warm discharge from the North East sewage plant, so keep that in mind if the rest is frozen. Have a good trip.
