If you are ever on the river and trying to decide where to fish, watch the birds. I made that mistake a couple of days ago. (50 degrees on Tuesday). We scared an immature eagle and a couple of herons from an area and continued walking down the river to our "spot".
An hour later, we went back to that area and began catching fish.

Great pictures! I know they scare and eat fish but I still think they are beautiful and love seeing them .

I scare and eat fish, too, but people don't seem to hate me as much as they hate herons.

I’ve mentioned this in the forum before but it’s worth telling again it was so awesome. One afternoon on the Tully I witnessed 2 bald eagles, a redtail hawk and an osprey get into a mid air battle over a trout the osprey was carrying. In the end the fish was dropped back into the river by the osprey.

While lake fishing, I saw a bald eagle and an osprey get into a fight over a fish. They locked together in the air after the eagle finally caught the osprey in flight. They tumbled and fell to the ground behind some trees and bushes. After about two minutes, the eagle flew up. I never saw the osprey again. It was pretty wild.

I had a red tail hawk in my brush one day that wasn't moving very well,I decided to try and see if I could figure out what was going on ,upon closer inspection I saw it was missing a leg ,I went for the 22 to dispatch it and it flew into the neighbors tree, I couldn't dispatch it and then found it's leg,upon googling it I came across information that there very territorial and will chomp off legs of intruders etc,etc,ouch mother nature is a Bit*+% sometimes

Similar results. The past few times I've fished it hasn't fished well for me. I mostly fished from the "Road to Nowhere" up to the confluence with Cacoosing.

Ive been trying multiple different stretches. That was the last one I did and I dont believe there are any good holes in that strip. Might be better when the water is higher bc there are lost of boulders and structure but its all pretty shallow

I wonder if my blue heron friends are still there , fished it once last year in late Summer and I had 2 herons stay with me one above one below the entire time. I would like to know where all the tiny clam shells come from , do trout eat those ?

They absolutely are! I always see them and they yell at me when I get in their spots

20+ years ago, it was automatic with a pinch on indicator and some zebra midges on the coldest days. I cant speak for now, but back then, I found em in weird spots, but they were stacked. I recall that usually being the dead slow water below rebers. Guessing they liked the temp stability from spring tribs.
