Tulpehocken Creek, Berks County, Pa 7-17-2010

Fished the tully at the paper mill from 530 till about 9 with sightnymph and his friend Josh. Flows were great, but wasnt able to get a temp, but it felt pretty cool. Lots of trico duns in the morning and some fish rising too them. We all started off nymphing and everyone had a few hook ups, but no steady action. Around 8 the tricos were in the air and fish had started rising. Andy and Josh worked the riffles around Cacoosing, and did well. I worked the flats above, and took fewer trout than the other guys, but still managed a few nice fat browns. I really had to work to catch fish. They are super picky in the flats, but cooperative. It was a good outing. This was the second time I got to fish with sightnymph and the first time I got to fish with Josh. Great bunch of guys and great fishermen.

Sounds like some decent fishing.

The Tully temp was 66ish this AM. Not bad.

Thanks for the temp reading, I should buy a thermometer, but Im glad to know I wasnt stressing the fish out. All fished released same away promptly.

I passed you on the way. I had meant to hit the road to nowhere but there were 3 cars at 6 AM. Papermill - same thing - musta been you guys. So I headed up to the Pallisades with Raff. We definitely saw a decent trico bloom and were hit with a blanket of spinners at about 8:30. Temp I took was 65 at the Pallisades. The fish were definitely picky up top.

Thanks for getting the report up. We went golfing after you guys left and 5 beers made me say that a nap was better than posting a report. LMAO. The temp was pretty good considering how the flow / temp had been over the last couple of years. We kept taking fish in the riff on larva and sunken tricos. Good fishing with you guys again.

What am I doing w/ my free hand in that pic? The Fonz thumbs up thing? LMAO. I'll upload the pics of you catching fish.

Im not too sure what you were doing, but it made for a good picture. Looking forward to seeing some pics you took. If the temps on the tully hold up, we'll have to fish it again.

Man you are spending a ton of time on the Tully this year! Are you still breaking off a bunch there? I need more flies and figure I can just catch the fish you are accessorizing. LOL. Seriously, though glad to hear you guys had a good time. I am really interested to see how the fish holdover this Summer. If they manage to hold over well, then we do the Fall and Spring float stocks that stream will be something else next year come sulphur time!

I keep getting suckered into going down to that sewer. The water was over 300 cfs when we fished it last time and the temps weren't bad. I think they held off on releasing the cold water as long as they could and it might have worked! Hope the weather cools off before they run out of it. The fish looked healthy. There could be a decent hold over if things stay the same. Keep your fingers crossed.
