Tulpehocken Creek, Berks County, 3/3/17

Fished the Tully today 3/3/17

Conditions:
Flow: 123cfs super low and clear.
Air Temp: 32*
Water temp: 44*
Weather: Sunny skies with a few snow showers and intermittent windy conditions.

I seined and found one adult caddis larvae and several green and tan midge larvae. There were a few midges coming off but no risers. I managed one rainbow in the 1.5 hours I fished from 12-1:30.

I moved on to a stocked pond for another 1.5 hours and ended the day with 9 fish.

Not much shelter from the wind at the Tully! You are braver than me. I went to work to save the day today...

I was off work today (no vacation time used) and in the area since I need to pick up some materials and new wading boots from tco. Figured I would try to catch a few fish while I was in the area.

You aren't kidding about the wind. There was no where to hide. The gusts where strong enough that it would blow my leader around making nymphing very difficult.

There's a stocked pond near Reading - was it private ?

The pond is the Cocalico Sportsmans Club pond in Denver. The club stocks the pond in October and it is C&R FF only October - April when they have the kids trout rodeo. You can't really beat it with the cheap membership dues and a nice place to catch a fish or two throughout the fall and winter.

with the lack of State stocked trout ponds in our area, i'm surprised that there are no pay to play lakes around here.

i guess land is too expensive now ?

I have been there to try out new fly patterns. It takes about 10 minutes to catch 5 trout LOL.

In SE PA I recommend checking out farm ponds for bluegills and bass. There are some really good ones in the region.

You could probably look at satellite images and find some close to where you live. Then try to persuade the land owners to let you fish.

If they are farmers and sell produce, eggs, etc. that might be a good opening.
