Had a Friday to myself and thought I’d get out for a few hours. I figured with the high water all last week the fish had a good break from the pressure and I was right… started the morning fishing streamers in the slow moving water by the banks and found small pods of fish huddled up. As the sun started to rise above the tree line a good midge hatch started really buzzing but, no surface activity.

I switched up and started fishing a simple 18# baetis nymph and was catching some more fish. The highlight of the morning was catching 2 rainbows from the fall stocking, the difference in fight between the older rainbows and the freshly stocked browns was tremendous. Around 9:15 the wind really started picking up and the cold water made me pack it up at 9:30. It was good to get out and really got me excited for the opening of my favorite streams next weekend!

I noticed the same thing about the fall stocked rainbows yesterday as well. I landed 2 rainbows with very clean fins and they both gave me trouble getting to the net. Shortly later I landed 2 freshly stocked browns. They were larger fish but had much less fight. One I swore was a sucker until I got visual of it.

Section number would be a nice addition too. Sounds like Section 07 though, given the reference to the recently stocked browns vs fall stocked RT.
