Tulpehocken creek 2/7/2009

crazy to see all of these Tully posts! Wow - There never used to be anyone there during the good time of year, now it is packed in February and most fish were killed during the fish kill in November anyway...
 
Decided to finally head up to the Tully for the first time today. Fished for a couple hours today and caught about a dozen or so with pink sucker spawn, prince nymph and glo bugs. Most were 10-11" bows but did manage one a little over 16". Nice stream and a really nice day to be out.
 
no not a lot of fish were killed during the fish kill. i was scouting the creek in the fall during the time of the kill and i think its not as bad as every one says to be honest.

A great # were killed over the course of a few days. My good freind is a government employee who did a lot inventory. It is a very disappointing turn of events.

The best survivors seemed to ultimately be the fingerling - which brings the question up again - why they don't stock more and keep that program going. They seem to do better!

That's okay I'll just stop posting the reports. I don't see the point in recording all of the other stuff, I'm out there to fish and have a good time, not record data.

The point is that reports are a resource for others to mine and use to plan trips and such. If you just want to talk about your fishing trip last week, that's ok too. But there are at least two other places on he board you can do that.
 
I just think it's a bit of a buzz kill. I'm out there to fish, not do a science project. Fishing is suppost to be laid back and relaxing. I do it for fun, I don't see any other reason to do it.
 
I was explaining why i posted how i did in the first place. must know, the time I fished was 12:34 in the afternoon to 3:04. The air temp was 44.2 degrees. The water temp was 39.7 degrees. The carp caught were 22 inches, 24.2 inches, and the last was 14.5 inches. The last carp had a bit of a mark near its dorsal fin. The sky was mostly clear, but I did see one small cloud. The wind was blowing at 8.6 miles per hour. The carp was taken on a size 14 bead head prince nymph on a tiemco 3769 nymph hook. The bead head was made of brass and the size was 7/64 of an inch. There were rocks at the bottom of the stream and I was fishing in water. I saw a bird when I was fishing. The end of my wonderful story about my fishing trip, no fishing adventure, on the tulpehocken creek. I hope you enjoyed it. ; )

Dave, our board host set the Stream Reports forum up for a specific purpose and has asked that it be used in conformity to his suggestions. If the report contains nothing of use to other anglers, he would rather it not be held in this database. You can put non-conforming posts in the Stream Locations or even the General Forum. While we want to encourage additions to Stream Reports, it only makes sense to do so if they provide some of the suggested info. I am very liberal in construing these guidelines, but your initial post didn't contain anything that would help an angler looking for information. Red-headed Stranger's intervening comments added enough that I decided not to move or delete it. Thanks for your understanding.

I'm with Dave on this one. A fairly big number of fish were killed during the kill, however, by percentage it wasn't that bad.

Apparently the PFBC is bringing the fingerling program back next fall...so I hear and the fish kill was nothing more than a batch of sick fish from the hatchery. IT WASN'T HERONS!!!!!!!!!!!! :-o :-D

It seems that they like to use herons when they don't know what really happened.

I fished there last week and picked up a couple and could see a bunch of nice size fish nymphing on the bottom.
