Fished both mornings on the Tully and had good fishing both days. Fish count for the weekend was 31. Fished above Reber's bridge on both days and caught fish on emergers and cdc caddis flies. Caught some pretty decent sized fish but had more fun fighting last year's fingerling stockers. Fish seemed keyed in on emergers until 8:00 then dry flies were the ticket after that. Quit fishing both days at 11:00, it just got to hot for my taste.
One thing did get my attention, some of the bigger fish that I caught had what looked like wounds from herons. However none of the fingerings from last fall did. Also some of the fish looked pretty rough around the mouth. I wish people would mash the barbs on the hook.

Wow sounds great! What emerger patterns were you fishing and what bugs did you see coming off?
 
I was using my version of the Barr caddis emerger. I also tie some of my cdc fairly sparse so they don't float very high they just hang in the film. I believe this was key to a lot of my success. The only hatch I was aware of was caddis. Although I talked to a few people who said sulphurs were hatching in the evening. I can't confirm that since I was done at midday.

How long were the fall fingerling stickies by the date of your trip?

Mike keep in mind that I am not very good at judging fish size mostly because it doesn't matter to me. But I think my best guess would be 11 inches. But man are they fiesty. Yesterday I caught 2 fish over 16 inches and it was like reeling in a log compared to the fingerling stockers. After the initial run they pretty much give up. The fingerling stockers fight and jump like crazy.
 
Yeah tell me about it. I fished it today and surprisingly had the whole creek from rebers up pretty much to myself with stretches and stretches of rising trout all for me. Landed 21 and must have hooked 15 more and all of them were around the 14-15 inch range but fought like hell and were definitely the most acrobatic fish I have ever fought....great fun.

I love this creek and how it completely comes to life in the spring. It reminds me of the west branch of the upper delaware right now.
 
I've been told to check this stream out. I was told broadcasting road but based on what I'm reading I may want to look at rebers
 
Start at rebels and work upstream. You'll definitely be on some fish. Good luck!

Thanks. Good estimate. Fingerling RT stocked in fall should be about ten to almost twelve inches by now, with an occasional 9.5 inch "runt" of the litter. I was just checking to see if the private hatchery fish were growing any faster or slower than PFBC fingerlings used to grow.

Were the 14-15 inch fish rainbow or browns? If both, what was the approximate ratio. A critical question is whether you actually measured some of these fish or whether the size was an estimate. This is a critical question because in the Tully, the predominant size can tell us something about the probable source of the fish (which year, which stocking).
 
Try size 18 tan caddis. The fish in the Tully are extremely educated so a perfect presentation is key.

Thanks. I'll try that. I'm going to put an extra long tippet on and I'll bring some 6x just in case.
 
Was on there by 6:30 this morning arriving to a strong caddis hatch and consistent risers. Required multiple dry fly changes to determine exactly what they wanted. And when you finally get it right.... :-D
 
Please watch water temp it's getting critically high. With high Temps today and tomorrow in the 90s this weekend might be spent carp or smallmouth fishing.
