I noticed that they raised the flow on the Tulley, and it rained pretty steady this morning. The rest of the day was supposed to be nice weather, so I headed up to the creek. I fished from around 2:30 until 7 PM and ended up with 16 browns.

I caught the first two fish on a cream mop fly, then noticed that caddis were coming off pretty steady. No fish were rising for them, so I put on a pink bead Walt’s. I caught another brown on the first drift, so I added another pink Walt’s. I did really well on the Browns in the riffles with this set up, including a nice fat Brown that was 19 1/2 to 20 inches long.

I hooked what I am sure is the same submarine of a rainbow that broke me off a couple weeks ago. He ran me up and down the creek, taking drag several times, then the line went limp. It did not break this time, but the waltz worm pulled out.

Later in the day, the Browns started coming up for the caddis, so I used a dry caddis on euro mono (yup, like peeing into the wind) and managed 3 browns on top 😂

You know, I never scooped one up to see up close. I’ve heard Tulley caddis usually are. The dries I used had tan elk hair with tan and brown bodies. I’d say about a size 18.

Sounds as though you were fishing Section 07 based on the exclusive catch of BT in such numbers. If so, I’m a little surprised that you didn’t catch any RT from fall stockings of Sections 07 and 08. Those RT are usually very colorful by spring and have added to their weight and about 2” to their lengths, at least that’s the case by mid-May. From electrofishing years ago at the Rt 222 bridge sampling site, it was apparent that some spring stocked RT may have also moved upstream from Section 08 or down from Section 06.

Man, I’m jealous. Over the last year I’ve fished the Tully easily 15 times and have yet to catch a trout there. Not sure if I’m throwing the wrong stuff or just picking the wrong spots. I love it there bc it’s close but it’s my kryptonite.
