Tully - Sept 30

Fished the Tully yesterday. Beautiful day to be on the stream.. Arrived around 9:30 at the Waterworks. Trico dun's where in the air but not on the water when I arrived. Saw a fair amount of Caddis mixed in.

Saw a few fish but none were actively feeding on the surface (or under the surface as it was maybe 24 inches deep in the deepest pools and the fish were quite visible). Only saw 5 or 6 fish. Worked small tan and green caddis dries to no avail. Wasn't interested in trying tricos. Worked back through the deflectors with nymph rig and caddis emerger and nymph larvae and had no interest. Overall, I spent about an hour at the Waterworks with no luck.

Moved over to the Pallisades around 11 and had more success. No Tricos in the air. Heavier caddis. Worked over several risers in the upper and missed a couple. This is the slower section and it was shaded so I couldn't be sure if they were fallfish or trout. Landed a nice Bluegill 😎

Worked the lower section and worked a few other nice risers. Missed a couple there too. These were definitely trout. Saw one 16" plus and fooled him on a size 20 emerald caddis but couldn't close the deal. Saw a bald eagle and a load of herron. The trout are on the defensive with the water as low as it is.

Sounds about right for the tully in these conditions. I've let it alone for the last few weeks. How were the temps? It was like bathwater last time I was there... It's gotten a good bit cooler since then though.

Temps were nice and cool. I don't carry a therm but I would guess in the mid 60s.

Attached is a link to the gauge on the Tully located right at the Waterworks. The temp. is holding from approximately a low of 68* to a high of 71*. The dam is depleted of cold water right now and temps remain rather high. Colder air temps will cool the water and make Blue Marsh turn over. The water temps should come down soon – hopefully.

FYI – to convert *C to *F just multiply the *C# X 1.8 and add 32. (20*C X 1.8 = 36 + 32 = 68*F)

Thanks Afish. I always checked the gauge at the outflow, but this is more useful. Are there any readings downstream of the tribs?
