Caught my biggest fish of the season on Sunday. A beautiful rainbow. I really needed to get out as work has been a bear the last few months. All though it was windy as he!! it was a great day to get out out! I had the section of stream to my self which really surprised me for a weekend. Not many risers but there's still plenty of fish. I saw a bunch feeding on the the bottom.
 
How big was the rainbow?

There are lots of nice fish, but monsters are rare in the Tully.
 
I was there on Sunday I mainly fished by Reebers. All I caught was a chub. I have been trying to nymph lately without a bober so its been real fustrating and i'm not going to quite at it until I get good at it . So wish me luck :-D . Also I seen a Eagle flying by with a foot long rainbow it landed in a tree near me were it started eating it . I would of beamed the Eagle with a rock but it was to far away in the tree for me to reach . :-(
 
Yeah, no offense fred... but if I see you hitting an eagle with a rock, I'd probably pick one up and throw it at you!

Herons too, even though I despise them.
 
Yeah, I wouldn't throw rocks at Eagles either.

I remember catching a nice big smallmouth bass in Maine that had escaped from the claws of an eagle. It had huge claw marks on his body.
 
They can eat all they want but not in front of me . Thats like telling the sheep hearder that he can't shoot the wolf for eating his sheep because they were the wolfs first. The only fish that you can say was for the Eagles around here would Brookies all the other fish were brought here for our pleasure not for the eagle and herons to eat those two birds put all the poachers in this state to shame . And Jay I wouldn't be very happy if you hit me with a rock :-x
 
Relax man, I wouldn't hit you with a rock. I was just expressing my distaste for the idea of hurting a truly awesome bird that's just doing it's nature thing. 😛
 
I still might hit him with a rock. There would be plenty of fish for you and the birds of we (people) hadn't done nearly everything we could have to pollute the rivers of this continent over the last 300 years. Again, peoples personal attitudes take precedent over the law. Eagle are a protected species as well as the symbol of our nation. If yu were to harm such a bird, on purpose, just because he caught a fish for a meal you wanted to catch for sport you would be a punk and criminal. Thank you for your opinion though, Oh Great Self Proclaimed Herder of Fish.

I am also not so sure "not for the eagle and herons to eat" is entirely true. When you make attempts to restore a population or body of water to its natural state as many have tried to do, fishing is only a benefit.

I sure hope you don't hunt, someone might shoot yu for trying to kill one of their deer. One sad dude.

the sheepherder may NOT shoot the wolf for eating his sheep as they are a protected species, just like the eagle. You would both be committing federal violations under the protected/endangered species acts.
 
Tom, I don't think you could hit me with a rock if you tried. But anyway the heron is not protected and certain eagles are . Heres a link to prove it ..... :-D So I guess its open season on the heron right now...JK but search any animal that you thought was protected to find the truth its funny how many urban legends you will find on this site. Some of you guys on here are so easy to get your buttons going I won't never kill a eagle just throw rocks at it to scare it away. If you check my my profile I have a little more to loose than the regular joe if I kill a protected animal ..... :lol:

"At one time herons were slaughtered for their plumage, which was used to decorate women's hats, but today they have little to fear from humans. They're protected by federal and state laws. However, herons are affected by loss of habitat, especially when marshy or coastal areas are developed. "

Regarding Herons...I recall a few years ago seeing many, many more than this year. On one day fishing, I saw three in eyeshot at the same time along our home stream in York County.

This year I see one here and there.

I think thye do less damage to a trout fishery than most assume. If anything, they thin the gene pool of stupid trout.
 
I'm really surprised that you saw an Eagle there. I guess the comeback is going well for them to come to Reading. :-D I also would be pissed if I seen someone throw a rock at an Eagle.

well for what its worth i think you may be wrong about how herons affect a fishery. when squaretail and i where at lititz run every fish we caught except for the little wild bow had heron marks on them. just most of these fish are too big and strong for a heron to get completely. also having said that....when i was at donegal creek tonight talking to a nice fellow whom lives along the stream...he told me he has found 3 bigger trout dead by the work of herons and almost every fish in the stream he has caught have heron scars. granted during normal years some of the holes are too deep for the herons to really get to the trout.....but this year is an exception. with all the low water, the fish are easier for the herons to see and catch. i think they are doing most of there damage during times like this.
also i think they are everywhere. each stream i have fished this year i have seen at least 2 herons. even on lititz run me and squaretail saw 3 of them. im not so sure they are as endangered as people would have us think.
 
When I was fishing big spring there was a pfbc guy doing a study and he said the same thing about the herons doing a # on the fish there this year because of the low water. They are suposed to be a migratory bird but I've seen them on Ridley last year when the creek was frozen and they are everywhere you fish for trout. And we feed all of them with or trout stamp money each year. I see them on the water these days more than I see ducks...... :-o

You are so right spector it would have been so much more correct for me to encourage him to throw rocks at endangered species. He's right, he has so much more right to those fish than the natural fauna that inhabited this continent long before his were kicked out of whatever country he comes from. The after someone tells him how stupid it would be to actually throw rocks at an eagle...he says, oh, I wouldn't really do that...crap. Spector, do you have anything intelligent to add or are you just going to be that guy who stands behind someone at a fight and says, "yeah, hit him Joe."

I never said I kill anything I just said beam it with a rock If I did I could of saved that rainbow.
