Fritz & I ventured up to the Tully today. Arrived about 10:45. Sunny and pretty nice but that didn't last long. We fished the Papermill riffle. Nice flow of 266 cfs, but the water felt very cold. The water was covered with midges and there were a good number of #20 Baetis emerging. Fritz landed two, lost one. I stumbled around on the rocks and almost fell in three times. Lost one on yellow sucker spawn. It got very windy and absolutely chilly. I got cold and by 1:30 had enough and we left. I witnessed the stocking last Friday. I watched two fellows in a two man pontoon boat float stock right to the Papermill riffle where they ran out of fish. The PFBC truck came down about half an hour later and there was a bucket brigade of about a dozen guys to reload the float stocking barrels. I'd bet at least another dozen pails of trout were released all along the pool. AS soon as it gets nice those fish are going to be feeding well.

I also fished Tully today. I parked under the 222 overpass and fished up to the next run down from the Papermill run. I caught eight cookie cutter stocked brownies. All fish were caught on nymphs that were fished with either a euro rig or dry dropper rig. The combination of cold water, cloudy weather, and wind made it feel colder than the actually temperature. All the fish were caught on the slower edges of runs. The fish probably haven't moved in the main flow of the runs yet. Afterwards, I stop in at TCO and one of the guys working their said that they stocked some really big fish last week. He showed me a picture of a giant Brown that they stocked.
