Tully, Berks county, 7/16/08

I fished at rebers today from 6:45 until 11:00. The water was clear, but I'm not sure of the temp. I waited around for around half an hour until the spinner fall started. It was nowhere near as thick as it was the first time I fished it a few weeks ago. The fish were alot tougher too. I caught a few on trico spinners, including one that was almost 16 inches. I moved down right under the bridge and it was loud, but there were 6 fish all together rising like crazy. I couldn't get them to take my spinners anymore, so I switched to an olive cdc caddis and it was like turning on a light. Two of those fish still have one in their mouth :lol:. It was a good day to be out. It got sunny and hot quick though. At least I got a chance to try out my new 3 weight and chest pack. There were plenty of fish to go around too. Definitly my new favorite stream.

Sounds like a good time. The fish (even on the Tully) get educated during the trico hatch. First and foremost, concentrate on getting a drag-free drift. Change your casting angle and position if necessary. Also, try tring the Al's version of the trike spinner from the LL fly shop. The wings are more delicate and realistic than most other trike flies tied. Less is more in this case. Here is the link to the pattern. Good luck.

Stupid working world is preventing me from getting out to fish any tricos. I'll try to get out there soon, but it's not looking good for the immediate future. Sting a few for me.

Afish, I've been using a variation of the al's trico that Ian from this board came up with. It's just tied with a poly spinner wing instead. I want to try some of the "traditional Al's tricos, but I don't have the hackle to tie them. I'll have to get some. I also did good with a real basic spinner pattern. It was just thread body, microfibbett tails, and I tied in a white cdc wing comparadun style with two feathers and just split one down each side. I googled it when I was done and found a bunch of patterns just like it.

I fished the Tully this morning, I put my stream report in the Locations section (my mistake) The hatch was mostly females.

chstrcntyfish Can you post a picture of the Olive CDC you were useing? I have only been Fly Fishing for 2 years and I have not learned all the fly patterns. I want to see if I have one and I am not sure what it looks like.

I live 1 mile from the Tully and it is better then the streams in the Poconos. It is the only stream I have been fishing and it is great.

I have only been fly fishing for just over one year. Just read up on here and you'll learn alot. I don't have a picture of one of the caddis that I tied but heres a picture on one that looks like it. I use deer hair instead of elk though.

This is your standard Tully Caddis in various shades of green, olive, tan or grey

I have also heard that Caddis tied with Poly wings are deadly too but I stick mostly with CDC.

I fished the Tully on Saturday 8/9/08. I was at the refrig pool. The temp was 64 degrees and I brought 3 to the net all in the 14-16 inch range. I was using White tricos (female).

Good report. Go figure, cooler water, as you move downstream away from the dam....
