Thanks to some good advice from Sal, I drove out to Trout Run on Saturday. Beautiful day, around 60 degrees and overcast, with some occasional mist, but no rain. Didn't have as long as I orifinally thought to fish, but still had a nice hike and brought 3 brookies to hand and lost probably another half dozen or so. I have fished brookie streams only two other times, one in Central PA and another in Shenandoah National Park. Trout Run is much bigger, relatively speaking, and very easy to navigate. The trails are very helpful, and the plunge pools and runs are beautiful.

The photos are not the best. I took the old cheapo camera since I was not sure of the rain status.

The first brook trout was tiny, as you can see. It took a little hare's ear dropper off the stimulator. I also caught what I assume was some type of dace, with a bright reddish stripe, and a tiny chub. I swithed the hares hear out for a bigger pheasant tail. The next few pools I missed several fish in each, then I took the last two fish from the same pool. One took the stimulator and one took the pheasant tail dropper. A beautiful day at a beautiful place.

Awesome colors on those fish! That last one's pretty big. I almost went out there on Sunday but decided to fish a little closer to home. I need to get out to that area sometime. Nice job man!

Nice fish. Is that the stream sometimes called Indian Run running through Ephrata? If so, that is awesome, otherwise I've only known it to be a heavy put and take stream.

No this stream is near Martic Forge. It IS called Trout Run

The one your thinking of is Indian Run. Locals call it trout run but thats not its name.

Not that I'm telling who to post what, but if this is indeed "trout run in Lancaster Co" it is on the Natural Reproduction list. So it's not anything that anyone else couldn't find. Especially not a big deal if you have to hike 2 miles or so to get there. Not some place your average fisherman is going to head to. But.... just my opinion

After I posted the report, I was concerned about whether or not I should have titled it "Wild Brookies - Lancaster County" but as ryguyfi says, it's not like it's a secret. Sorry if I went a little too far with my report. I was just excited to get into some brookies much closer to home that I ever knew I could!

And considering it is stocked water with Apporved Trout Water signs right off Pennsy Road makes it a big non secret.

I don't think this is a stream you should be posting about. There are obvious reasons.

I think he's perfectly within his right to post about it.

There's no need to rail on the guy in his report. A respectful pm is all that's needed if you're concerned about the stream. This thread will be two pages now because you opened this can of worms.

Nice report.

Bingo!

Look Trout Run is a Wild Trout Stream. Its also an approved trout water. All ill say about it is.....

Unless people fish it and see the beauty up there and catching wild brook trout....it will continue to be stocked and plundered far worse than any internet lurkers will ever do to it.

How ya guess 🙂

Gotta love them brookies!!!

You just opened up a can of corn...

I had no clue there were wild trout in there. Now I do... but i guess it doesn't matter though because it's on the natural reproduction list. I can't tell you how many people I know that have no clue what the natural reproduction list is, but I'll tell you what they do know... the savory taste of brook trout. If you think no one comes on this site and then goes to those streams to harvest some trout you really are naive. I also know some of them too.

Seriously? Do you see the size of those trout? I don't mean that in a bad way towards the angler catching them, they are gems, but for eating?

So turn them in. 7 inch minimum...3 fish limit...closed season?

the savory taste of brook trout.

Gee wonder where i heard that before. Welcome back ;-)

One more name to that list and you may have pieced together the holy grail of paflyfish...
