Decided to have a crack at the Trinity River on my trip out to visit some friends that live in Eureka, CA. Most rivers are closed this time of the year from Mar. 31 to the end of May. I drove out the Trinity Highway(299) and met up with a guide that lives close to the Trinity Fly Shop. He took me to a few spots and had me swinging flies on my 5wt with a sinking versileader. Had a blast and picked up a bunch of small juvenile steel that were in the 12-16" range. Icing on the cake was when a mayfly hatch came off and I landed 2 20"+ steelies on the dryfly. Not many people can say they get a chance to do that. Was a little disappointed I couldn't find the 4-8lbers but the river was gorgeous and I couldn't have asked for a better day. Driving through Six Rivers and Shasta-Trinity national forests was a blast as well. Can't wait to go back and it definitely gave me the itch to make the trek to Erie.

Very nice. Absolutely a beautiful area. Not a road (highway 299) for anyone that gets motion sickness.

Also got to see an Osprey make a dive and come up with a steelhead in its claws. It's amazing how my fish spines are scattered on those gravel bars. Blows my mind those fish can travel 130 miles to the ocean then all the way back.
