Tohickon Cr. Bucks Co., 5/4/15

After a failed early morning at Wissahickon I decided to head out to Tohickon Creek in Bucks county.

I have never been there before and honestly, I don't know what drove me to explore.

Got to the parking area in Tohickon Valley Park at around 10am, minimal breeze, air temps low 80's. Didn't check water temps, but it felt on the warmer, wet wading side.

Didn't really know where to go so I just headed down some trails into the valley and came across a beautiful creek with lots of pocket water and tan caddis' popping off all over the place. I dropped into the water around one of the cabins in the park.

Didn't see a single rise, but fished a PT with a caddis pupa dropper and got into 6 trout right off the bat, 4 browns and 2 rainbows, the largest being 16 inches and fighter.

Moved both upstream and downstream from the cabin didn't catch a single thing.

Later I checked and saw they stocked it on 4/29, I'm thinking because of the pocketed nature of the creek, the trout can't really move around from where they were stocked, which I'm guessing was right by the cabin as it seems like the rest of the creek is pretty tough to get to.

Anyway, it was a fun day of exploring. If anyone has any other experience on this creek, would love to hear any suggestions about location.

The Tohickon is float stocked so the fish get spread out pretty good.

I know the spot you were at - was a nice discovery for me too.
Another popular access nearby is a little upstream, on the south side - a section of ralph stover park with a covered(?) bridge.

When I went past there ~3 weeks ago, on a saturday morning, there were about 2 dozen anglers and zero reported fish caught - I attributed it to low, clear, cold water... and perhaps the fish were huddled in the few remaining deep spots, being harassed by ineffective fishing methods 🙂

As stated there is some nice water in the park. I haven't fished it in a few years , but the water near "High Rocks" was pretty decent, and scenic as well. I remember it being a little tough the last time there; but also recall going to a no. 20 Black Beauty midge and nailing some fish. It does warm up fast though and get's slimey as well, especially in times of low flows.

Ill add that this stream is just an awesome stream to be on. Surroundings are nice. Ive yet to catch a fish here, but sometimes for me, it aint about the fishing.

The water in the Tohickon gets very warm in the summer. Used to fish it frquently growing up. Trout don't last long, but bass will be around along with the snakes. ????
