Time Fished: 445pm - 700pm
Weather Conditions: 65 degrees, Cloudy
Water Conditions: 60 degrees, a bit high and off color
Insects: saw Caddis, March browns, midges, and some spinners.
The clouds rolled in as soon as I arrived and the trout were turned on. They were active on the surface and below. Maybe saw 7-8 trout sporadically taking dries.
I didn’t count strikes today. I started with a Royal coachman wet and a March Brown nymph. The trout were hitting the combo pretty well and I landed 6 rainbows. I swapped out the March Brown for an olive woolly bugger and caught 4 more rainbows.
I went downstream (to a historical great spot) but this year that area isn’t holding fish. I caught 2 more there (brown & rainbow).
I went back up stream and swapped the bugger for a prince nymph and caught the last fish of the day (a rainbow).
I tried a streamer and a dry fly before I left but neither produced a strike.
As I drove back to camp a very large tree had fallen and covered the full width of the road. Lines were down too So I backtracked to a dirt road to get back to camp and a bear ran across in front of me.
