"The Run" Yellow Breeches, Cumberland Co., 10/27/15

Had a half day at work so I made the commitment to get myself up to boiling springs for some much needed fall trout from not being able due to some busy weekends. Fished the run from about 2:30 to 5:00. Didn't take a water temp but it was clear and crisp. Landed 4 trout the first being a brown right from the get go on a pheasant tail, however it was a once and done deal. Saw some risers and switched to an "I can see it midge". Had some looks but no bites. I then switched to a CDC caddis and finally got a nice rainbow to rise. As Dave AKA Fishidiot posted about the run last week, the rises are very sketchy. The rainbow I landed took it very slowly and hardly gave any fight. My final 2 catches were on a dry dropper x-caddis with a caddis larva underneath with both taking the larva. The last hour I spent trying to catch a particular trout down stream from the bridge *wink* *wink* that I hope is still there when I return. I took pictures but I have to resize them before posting. Tight lines!

Oh and also I swung over to the new Field and Stream shop at capital city mall. Awesome place, and if any of you remember Roland from yellow breeches outfitters, he works there now. Really nice guy.
 
That fish wouldn't happen to be a very bright yellow fish about 18-20 inches, would it?
 
It sure would laszlo. I was up again on Sunday and had a go at um again, no luck though, just wouldn't budge. I was at the run from about 2-6, and got 6 catches in all. The last being a nice big hookjawed male right under the bridge. All were caught on a size 20 cream midge. If you know how to post videos, my wife took one of me catching it which I would love to post on here
 
that fish is still there wow he's been in there a wile my buddy hooked him twice in one day in early September
 
nice mikeyl, glad to hear. That alone builds on the reputation of Yellow Breeches being one of the best streams in the state in that it is well maintained and the trout are respected by local fisherman and survive to be caught another day. However in this case a good couple months!!
 
Unfortunately, the Blue Heron have been having great success in the Run and mainstream lately.
 
I think "the run" was the only fishable water in PA yesterday.
 
Felt like I had to share this: I stopped by the run yesterday while driving through the area on the way to DC. I fished for maybe 15 minutes and hooked 4 fish (thats beside the point). The funny part is, the blue heron was there and stalking the same trout that I was. Surprisingly I won, and the fat 14" brook trout put up a good fight. It was at this moment that the now green-eyed heron decided he had been out-hunted. He moved over to a log about 5 feet from me while I landed and unhooked the fish - He was absolutely fearless which was a bit disconcerting. Now comes the worst of the story (or funniest part if you are one of my friends): I tried to capture this moment on my iphone, which subsequently ended up at the bottom of the run. So, my brief fishing day was over and my next days will be spent looking at my phone through a bag of rice. Note: the brook trout made it safely away from the heron - for now at least.
 
The Heron have been around the Breeches for a long time and are used to humans. They are not easily intimidated, especially when they have their eyes on a specific trout.
 
Learned that the hard way last time I fished the run. I was trying to move in near a certain log vein, tried to shoo away the Heron across from me so as not to spook him upstream. Instead took a wrong step and went for a little swim. Still have the bruised forearm to show for it. Thankfully no one saw, so the bruised pride healed quickly. The Heron moved downstream.
