The Official Spring Jamboree May 16-18, 2014 Announcement

Ok...after reading the last page or so of posts I'm really pumped now.

This schedule is pretty solid for me at this point...

Pack truck Wednesday evening/Thursday morning...On the road about 9:00 AM Thursday. Fish a spot or two on the way up Thursday, roll into campground by 4:00 or so. Set up camp. 50/50 on whether or not I'll fish Thursday night...might just hang out and relax. Two combos of small stream during the day, big stream evening hatch Friday and Saturday. Festivities in the evening. Head for home (probably no fishing) Sunday.

I can't commit. But yes, I intend to. The timing is the biggest question. I'm gonna be there a week. Out of a cooler.

The marinade ingredients can be packed, but the meat. If I did it for the weekend, I'd have to buy it mid-week and do it up Thursday or Friday to have right for Saturday. More likely that I'll make it before I ever go up. In which case it'll be getting eaten Tuesday-Wed evening among the pioneers.

If Ed and Da Dog smell of garlic, you'll know what's up.

I'll try to save you some for Thursday. I'll do my best to keep the cooler cold. But 3+ day old marinated pork roast kept in a cooler on variable amounts of ice. Your call. 🙂 I can picture the congealed fat now!

I do owe you some grub though. I can still taste those ribs you did, they were fantastic. Was that last year or the year before? Thinkin it was 2 years ago. Last year you were in a cabin, right? I think there was a Thursday evening around your fire, but that's the night I remember least. I burnt my candle out too early from that, and couldn't hang for the rest of the weekend.
 
pcray - Yeah cabin was last year. Tenting again this year. Ribs were Wiss's but they were damn good. I haven't thought about food this year, but will be shortly. Your late night grilled pork last year was boss.

Squatch - Yeah sounds good, might be heavy a salmonoid too, but I'll be in touch.

i was kind of thinking the same thing re arriving thursday night and having food for Saturday night - where would be the nearest grocery store be ?

Whatever. It's cool. Just let me know. I'm going up on Thursday either way. I just don't want to miss on small stream fishing. I don't know the area very well at all.

Bikerfish said he'd be up at some point on Thursday as well.
 
Geebee, assuming you're taking 322 Westbound, I would stop at the Giant in Lewistown off the Burnham Exit before you get there. That exit is easy on, easy off, and the Giant is right at the bottom of the hill. It's only about ten minutes on 322 from there to the top of Seven Mountains.

Store at the bottom of the hill has basics. Nearest full grocery store is probably state college.

 
There's a nice grocery store in Millheim - I think it's Amish owned. Great home made baked goods, and prepared foods.
 
State college is closer than Milheim. But, yes, its a nice place. And depending where your fishing adventures take you, may be less out of the way. Specifically if you wanna stop on the same trip as fishing Penns around Coburn.

Tuesday night is wing night at the Millheim Fire Company. If you'd like, Dawg and I will take you there, as we're both members.

They have a HUGE selection of wing sauces, and the wings are about as good as they get. Only place I've ever got wings that were hot enough for me. The "After Death" sauce is wicked!

Great burgers and fries, too. We usually eat at the fire company every night we're at camp, as it's a short drive back to camp from there (Rebersburg).
 
Mmmmm.......wing night! Free shuffle board,free pool,free darts...Can't wait. And it's only 5 min from Penns! Good times 😛int:
 
Dog - Just remembered, I have your Orvis Small Streams book. I'll bring it to the Jam.
 
Cool I have your flies still sitting on my bench and if you make it for wing night I'll hook you up with a dozen wings and a beer. :-D
 
Yeah, I'm strongly considering extending a couple days at this point. Gonna talk to the boss about a few more days off I guess.

Dog, I see he failed to mention the half gallon of milk he used back at camp to put out the fire in his gut!
