Tea Creek, Mifflin County, 08/11/2020

I was jonesing for some trout fishing so I went to a local true limestone spring creek. I mostly fished a parachute ant dry fly and the browns were eager. That rainbow in the picture I caught about a week ago. Same fish, same hole, different fly. Ant dry flies are my favorite summer dey fly patterns.

It felt so good to go and find so many eager fish willing to take a dry fly. I only fished for an hour and brought 6 trout to hand. Not bad. I'm ready for cooler weather.

Good water in there yet. I've been keeping an eye on Kish's gauge as I use it to try to gauge a few other streams in the area. Other than the rain a few days ago, it hasn't gotten much and hasn't reacted to the little rain it has gotten. Hope you get some more, but still, better water in Tea than I would have thought. Nice to see.

Tea's flow never gets too low due to it being straight spring fed. It maintains good flows of cold water just the like the other two straight limestone spring creeks in the near vicinity.

Very nice. Not recently, but I fished that stream just once. It was very chalky. I may have caught one for several hours of effort. Kicked my tail. Tip of the hat to you.

Yes, the last photo is where the old "duck pond" used to be.

I remember there being a pretty massive influx of spring water entering the stream just off of Tea Creek/Woodland Rd. Like coming out of a big pipe massive...

Fished Tea again today a little further upstream. Air temp was around 90° and the water was still 58°. I couldn't ven get a trout to sniff at a parachute ant like the last time. I caught three brown trout. One on an Ausable Wulff, one on an Adams, and one on a green weenie. I fished earlier in the day starting at about 4 and fished for an hour and twenty minutes or so. Plenty of fish to be caught as I saw lots of trout.

I always liked that place. I haven't fished it in a couple of years, but one thing stands out to me. Some of the browns have a very distinct coloring to them and I'm not talking about prespawn fall coloration. There are some very unique genetics there that I have yet to see elsewhere in PA. I always did well with an Orange or Yellow Stimulator #14 this time of year. A dry dropper rig with a BHPT, Green Weenie as the trailer is also money in there.

I can believe that..I rarely fish dry and dropper rigs. I used to fish multiple nymph rigs or dry droppers. I have mostly simplified my setup to one fly at a time these days.

Tea Creek Brown

Let's see if the pic works....

Was out on Tea Creek today. Hooked 6, landed 4. Missed a bigger guy that got off. I was tightlining with my 4 WT 8 foot with a weightless pats rubberlegs.

Can someone else help out with the 2 other limestoners in the area? I'm closing on a house in Milroy this week and plan on doing a lot of exploring.

What kind of "help" are you looking for? If you need to know about trout fishing regarding pretty much anything in Mifflin County then I'm your man. I know the waters of this county in and out. Are you simply asking what the other two limestoners are?
