I was fortunate enough to combine a bit of work with a bit of fishing in Colorado this week. A grant organization that I am affiliated with needed me to present at a conference in Denver on Friday. As I have a friend who fishes all over the state of Colorado that was willing to pick me up after the conference, I jumped at the chance.
We spent Saturday and Sunday fishing the Taylor River. The section of river we fished is the famous C & R section near Taylor Park Reservoir. This river is renowned for its mysis fed rainbows, some of which push 10 pounds.
While we did not catch any true pigs (They seem to be more present in the C & R section during higher flows (300 cfs). The river was flowing at 95 cfs), we did manage to catch many nice browns and rainbows. The majority of our fish were caught on various midge and baetis dries and emergers. Other fish were fooled on eggs, pt nymphs, and mysis imitations.
All in all, not a bad way to finish up a conference.
