Fished the sus q today with jay348 and my father. We started the morning fishing from kayaks and toons. It was windy, cool, and very foggy first thing this morning. Jay348 was getting a lot of hits on topwater, but i couldn't draw a strike on top so i kept a crayfish pattern on. My father got a nice walleye on a clouser, jay348 got a few smaller bass, and i ended the morning with a couple small bass, an average channel cat, and a beautiful 15-16in. smallie.
With the water being low and clear i decided to try for carp in front of my parent's place with a small nymph. I was seeing few carp, but visibility wasn't that good due to chop on the water and the carp didn't seem to be feeding. I saw a carp in close and made a cast to where i thought it would be. The carp veered off to the right so the fly ended up near it's tail. I felt the line going tight as i lifted the rod and i thought "S%!* I've foul hooked the carp in the tail". I felt head shakes as I watched the carp swim away non nonchalantly, I was confused for a moment, and then a big smallmouth erupted out of the water. The pictures don't do the fish justice, but it ended up being an 18 incher...sometimes you fall in it and come out smelling like roses. I listened to the eagles win on the way home and my day was complete.
