Took the 3 minute drive down to the river this morning with my son. River levels are just about where I like them, low and slow and clear. Brought my big old fiberglass Fenwick, but forgot the reel. I had my CGR 6'6" #4 in the truck fortunately, so I waded out and tried my luck with my little fiberglass trout rod. I managed to find a nice pod of bass. I struggled to get the popper out near the bass but manage to get one to strike. Yelled back to my son, Nate had put his rod down and had begun wittling a stick by this time. He was completely content trying to grab minnows and crayfish and playing with a pocket knife the whole time. I wasn't on the river long and although I caught one bass, not very big, but the biggest I'd caught on that little rod I figured I quit while I was ahead. I slowly made my way back to shore. It was a really gorgeous morning to be out.
