Susquehanna River, Perry Co., 8/5/19

The big bass are feeding. Try the River where you’ve had success on top in past years and see if the risers are there. I’m thinking so. They are selective but you’ll catch some I’m guessing.

I have been twice this past month and although I didn't catch quite the number of fish as in the previous 4 years, I generally had the same degree of success. Two trips back I floated for 2.5 hours and had 8 strikes, 7 hookups (all sizable fish 16"+), and 5 landed-2 at 16", one at 18", and 2 at 21". Last trip was with a 10 year old boy, so my technique needed to change. We still landed 5 in 3 hours and missed two very large fish. I landed one at 18" that detonated my H2 6wt on the hookset. So, while the river clearly isn't as easy as we expect it to be, I think the fish are still there. What I will say about my technique is that it requires unreasonably long and accurate casting. If you're closer than 60', you're too close.
