Susquehanna River, Lancaster Cty, 07/25/2007

Tom and I fished the Bainbridge area over a pretty good white fly hatch. There was a stiff upriver wind until the hatch. We just relaxed and walked the shore having a beer until the wind died. At dusk the shallow waters came alive with fish, mostly catties when the flies hatched adn came down we had about 1 solid hour of pure action. Tom landed 1 fish, a 14" cattie. I was fortunate enough to pick up 6. three catties and 3 smallies. The smallies ranged from 12", 16" and 19". The last one was a real hawg. The catties were equally impressive.

We fished from about 8:15-10:00PM

I think the hatch must be waning because reports are that it was there a week ago to.

Sounds like you had a good outing. Serveral years ago I landed to cats over 20 inches below bainbridge during the white fly hatch. It is always a surprise what you bring to hand in dark during that hatch.

It was no surprise with the catties. We went there full well expecting to catch catties. They are more challenging than the bass (when there were bass) because the catties don't stay put. They cruise and slurp, you throw into a group and pick up when you think one is on it. 6 times I was bent, only hooking 3 of the catties.

The smallies were the surprise, the trick to finding them in amongst the catties is to look for the circular rise forms that keep reappearing in the same area.

Anyway, you are right...it was a good outting and I wana get back but family and work will keep me off the water til Monday probably.

I also caught the cats cruising. Did you have any water shows, when the cats got spooked?

I have picked some walleye up that were rsing like bass. THe walleye were the big surprise for me.

Were you up in bainbridge or down behind the car gill grain place.
