The river finally seemed to be at good kayaking flows, so I floated from Marietta to Columbia this afternoon. I was also out Friday night up near Bainbridge, but the flows were much higher and the water was quite a bit dirtier. Today, the water was still off-color, but the river was moving nicely. I was able to eddy behind some big rocks and slowly work the water along the banks. I landed my first smallmouth of the year on a clawdad stripped low and slow in a deep pocket behind a ledge. I was using a versileader to keep my line down. It felt GOOD to get back on the river and land a smallie. I'm hoping this is a precursor to a great summer of low flows and tons of smallies... 🙂

And just a side note - Marietta is such a great town. My wife and I rode 14 miles up and down the river in the morning and I kayaked and fished for smallies in the afternoon all right from my house. It has such awesome access to what makes this area great.

That first pic... iconic Susquehanna life!!! Feel free all the way, thanks for sharing!!!

Nice photography! Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful! I used to work in that area, mostly seeing it from above. Always enjoyed seeing the yaks and climbers on that part.
