Spent sometime fishing around canal lock and above from 2-6pm today. I tried my own version on the "Stonecat". Mine is articulated in this configuration 3/4" shank - 1" shank - size 2/0 wide gape hook. I used black marabou/ olive barred rabbit strip tail with olive rabbit strip palmered with black marabou body, big tuffs of black marabou behind an olive sculpin helmet. I also put in long stands of gold flash and rubber. It is about 3" long, slender, heavy and has lots of action.
I had a good afternoon bouncing it off rocks on the bottom and was able to bring in a dozen bass or so in the 12-14 inch range. I did see a few bigger bass leap but wasn't able to seal the deal this time. A storm front looked like it was moving in and the bass just seemed to shut off.
I'll post up pics tomorrow. Thanks for the pattern idea Dave, it was hard not to catch bass with the thing.
