I fished the lower Susquehanna below the Conowingo Dam with my Dad and fellow member jay348 for shad from about 6am-11am. The water was low when i arrived, around 13,000 cfs. We found a few fish when the water was low, but it was difficult to reach the stronger current seams and deeper water with a fly rod.
I think it was around 830 or 9 that they started really releasing water and things picked up. It got up to around 60-70000 cfs. Between the 3 of us we probably landed around 60 fish, with a good portion of them being American shad. Some of the Americans were good sized, probably near 4 pounds. Chartreuse and white clousers or clouser type flies on heavy sink tips were the ticket. Visibility was about a foot or less. The smart buoy says the water temp is 62. It started to slow up a little when the sun came out a little more and i was hungry and thirsty so I came home for lunch. Jay348 stuck around a little longer and said he picked up a few more including some nice fish.
