Susquehanna River, 8-27-16, Dauphin County

Floated this morning with DaveS, Fishwagen and his father. Fished between 7:15 & 3pm.

Water was mostly clear, water temps at / near 80 degrees, light fog giving way to hazy skies. Air temp started out warm and got to down right oppressive.

The fishing started out pretty hot and fizzled before noon. We found fish in every type of water. Fish sizes varied from 8" - 18"+. I'd call it one of the tougher days this year. Fish were hard to come by but we still boated 25-35 fish per boat.

I've never seen so much traffic on the river as we saw today. Must have seen 75 - 100 kayaks / canoes....some fishing.....some relaxing. Nice day but a little too warm for me.

Nice report... I was wading the West Bank above Harrisburg yesterday, and I will echo your report on the boat traffic. There were two boats on the water at 0600 am when I started and the flood of boats started at about 0800 am. Most were very respectful and gave me plenty of space. One yahoo fished 50 feet in front of me in the grass patch that I was casting too. It probably didn't help that I hooked up several times while he was setting up his yak watching. To each his own, I was enjoying the morning too much to let it bug me, but you have to shake your head a little.

The fishing was slower yesterday than my past couple of trips, but the size was much better on average. I am certain you guys baked out there, I was toasted at 0930, wading about a mile stretch, and I was eating waffles at the Marysville diner at 1000.

This was my first trip back to the Susky in over ten years. Despite Kray and Fishwagen's testament that it was an atypically slow day, it was pretty good for me. My experience with bass, albeit limited with the Susquehanna in particular, is rather long in the tooth. Most of my "Good" days involved plenty of 8-10 inchers a few bigger and if you got a 16-18 incher, that would be "The Fish".

But we did way better than that. I'll say the poundage of fish boated were easily my best ever for bass. And the couple that we lost were pretty nice too. (and sure to get me back there in way less than a decade.

I was looking forward to boating a flathead on a streamer, so maybe next time.

Nice day on the river with my fishin' buddies, but OMG did it get hot.
